Being we run our Photography business in Latrobe Tasmania, many of our clients excitedly choose to have their session at beautiful Bells Parade once we have mentioned it as one of our more popular and versatile locations.
To really appreciate the little gem of our township, first take a step back in history with me for a moment,, back in 1855 half brothers Henry Bentinck and Robert Bell constructed the original port, wharf and store on the Mersey River banks of Latrobe (Near where the Axemens Hall of fame stands today ) In its time the Latrobe port was an essential location for the transportation of timbers, coal and wool as far away as England. many of the local ships from this period were crafted here and this port thrived until its demise in the late 1880s, the ships grew in size and could no longer service the more shallow parts of the River. the location of the "Settlers wharf" was eventually renamed Bells parade for founding brother Robert Bell.
With its delightfully beautiful old English trees nestled on the lush river banks along with its historical structures this picturesque and serene place has seen a lot of change over the years with Town population, over time and sadly major floods , it now offers picnic areas , large undercover BBQ facilities with seating, public rest rooms, Children's play equipment, well manicured gardens, roaming wildlife (ducks especially), popular walking tracks one leading in to the sweet town streets of Latrobe , a Restaurant, function center, museum, weekend market and we mustn't forget the doggy run area. Although much has changed, some things still remain... remarkably Bells Parade is still hosting Henley on the Mersey every Australia Day and has for 90 years now.
